Flower Doctor-Disbuds

Hello, Flower Doctor Here, Over the past couple of weeks we have had the same question asked a few times...."What are those flowers??" as they point to the gorgeous looking flowers in our showcase. What they are pointing at are our Disbuds, a type of Chrysanthemum. The Disbud Chrysanthemum has one single large flower per stem produced by removing all side buds when the plant was young. There are two types of Disbuds: Spiders and Cremons. A Spider is distinguished by its tubular petals. Any disbud without this characteristic is a Cremon. Disbuds are used as a focal flowers in arrangements and bouquets. The average size of a Disbud bloom is 7-9cm in diameter. What to look for: -Central petals form a tuft; -Petals should be free of brown blemishes; -Avoid bunches with yellow leaves � leaves age before flowers. Flower Care: -Keep cool at all times. -Strip leaves from the bottom half of each stem. -Re-cut at least 2 cm off each stem. -Never pound or crush stem ends. -Always use a cut flower preservative as this will help buds open and keep open flowers looking fresh.
