Phaleanopsis Orchid Plant Care

  The Phalaenopsis Orchid is one of Australia's favourite houseplants. Plants with long-lasting sprays of lovely moth-like blooms in a board array of colours are inexpensive and widely available, ready to give weeks of pleasure in your home or office. Location: Indoors, in bright area, away from direct sunlight. Any position where African Violets can grow and flower, will suit the Phalaenopsis perfectly. Temperatures for Phalaenopsis Plants should be above 18 Degrees Celsius at night, and range between 24-30 Degrees Celsius during the day. Water once a week in summer, less in winter, try to keep medium moist, but not wet and apply an ample dose of general purpose orchid, water soluble fertiliser every 4 weeks, especially in the spring and summer months. In the autumn months, switching to a bloom booster fertiliser, coupled with cooler nights, induces plants to set buds and flower. Potting is bet done in the spring months, after blooming. Phalaenopsis plants must be potted in a well draining mix, such as fir-bank, various types of stone. After flowers have finished, cut back flower stems to 5cm above the base, it will usually produce a new shoot.
