Why is smoke bad for flowers?

Hello, Flower Doctor Here, Why is smoke bad for flowers?? Nowadays tobacco boxes in many countries are labelled with texts like: "Smoking will kill you and is bad for your children to live in". Opposed to this: flowers are good for people�and make them happy. But flowers and smoke do not mix well, as smoke produces ethylene gas which negatively affects the vase life performance of the flowers. Other ethylene sources are: -Ripening fruit -Exhaust from combustion engines -Industrial smoke -Yeast, bacteria and fungi
